The institution we have chosen for our film is BBC.
BBC is a Public domain broadcaster which receives some of its fundings from the public mostly through voluntary donations, television license fee or by funding the state. The role of BBC is to inform , educate and entertain. As the story of my film informs the audience about the discretion among the society and educate of how it affects the low class people and entertain as the film is expected to grab the audience interests as they would relate it to themselves. People are also expected to take interest as it would be a BBC production showing the Pakistani culture which would be most favored by the Asians. BBC covers the issues and represents multicultural societies and as Pakistan is a Commonwealth country BBC will favor its production.
A production company is responsible for the physical production, which drafts business proposals, makes up budgets and the production company for BBC is usually the BBC studio itself. The distributor for my film will be BBC itself because it has successfully distributed its films previously and will do a good job this time too. No one else will be as interested in our film as the producer itself, and distributing the film will help save the huge costs charged by the distributors and we can reach our target audience ourself. The distributors often retain 75% of the profit to cover their own costs and pay the producers 25% as stated in the book ‘Producing and Directing short film and video’ by Peter W.Rea and David K.Irving, which also tells us the figures of Distributor’s percentage of sales.
*Note: This book was released in 1995, however statistics have not varied much since then.
However, our film would have a limited release at start because of the low budget. BBC is known to have made similar low budget films and I believe they would select and distribute our film as well.
‘Dr No’ is a similar low budget film as well, which is a down to earth affair as well. Although it did not attain the level of ‘Gold finger’ and ‘You only live twice’, but they did succeed well. The character of James Bond in this film is similar to the character of Hammad in my film as James Bond also spends most of his time being humiliated and in fear panic and disgust. This film also presents societies as our film did.
